About Us

Historic Wendover Airfield Vision:

This airfield is the most original remaining World War II Army Air Forces training base in the country.  Here is the place where both young and old alike can catch a vision of the 75 year-old history that today we may consider long past but still will capture our imagination.

This is a historic site that is rich in the sights, sounds and feelings tht would have been present during the 1940's when the Army Air Forces were training heavy bombers here.  Walking into one of the barracks, hangars or any number of buildings, visitors can almost see the WW II airmen taking part in there training and living here at this isolated yet busy airfield.

Visitors will gain an appreciation for the ingenuity, dedication and sacrifice of our veterans as they see how our men and women won the war with equipment, tool and procedures that today we take for granted.

Historic Wendover Airfield Mission Statement:

We are preserving the legacy of The United States Army Air Forces at Wendover Airfield and the sacrifices of ordinary citizens and soldiers during the extraordinary events of World War II.

Our focus is to preserve the historic location and resources that were dedicated during World War II to developing the United States Air Forces into a formidable group that could help win the war.  We want to provide a venue that will promote ongoing learning and will develop an interest in the sciences and technology associated with aviation and engineering.

We strive to accomplish this mission by:

1.  Developing exhibits, displays, and programs that educate visitors and stimulate learning of both the history and the science/technology of the time and how it applies to us today.

2.  Building partnerships with appropriate groups that can utilize the facilities; ensuring ongoing use and education for a wide range of audiences.

3.  Engaging the city, county, state and nation in understanding and embracing the historic significance of this airfield.

4.  Ensuring adequate financial support for preservation, restoration and ongoing operations.
